MAGNUSSON FURTHER BOOSTS MIDDLE EAST GROUP WITH NEW PARTNER IN DENMARK

2016-10-04

International law firm Magnusson continues to develop its Middle East Group and at the same time further strengthens the Copenhagen office with the arrival of partner Sam Jalaei.

Sam Jalaei is one of only a few Danish lawyers of Iranian origin.

He focuses on corporate and commercial transactions, with a particular focus on M&A. He has worked for major Danish law firms such as Bech Bruun and Kromann Reumert and has been a partner at international law firm Eversheds, where he was a part of the Middle East Business Group.

Adding Sam as a partner in Copenhagen will see the Copenhagen office establishing a local Middle East Desk, with a particular focus in Iran, which Sam will head up. For more than 15 years Sam has been advising major domestic and international clients in Denmark and abroad, with a specific focus on the Middle East and Iran. Sam has a long-standing track record as a trusted adviser to clients on matters relating to doing business in Iran, including work related to the sanctions regime, regulatory issues, negotiating contracts as well as setting up business and joint ventures etc.

He is a co-founder and board member of the newly established NGO Nordic-Iranian Chamber of Commerce. He speaks, writes and reads Persian as a native language.

Sam joins Magnusson’s Middle East Group headed by Saideh Yahyavi. By adding a strong transactional expertise to this international team, Sam will contribute to the further development of Magnusson’s focus on advising clients going to and coming from the Middle East.

“Since we launched the Middle East Group in 2015, the practice has gone from strength to strength. The arrival of Sam follows that of Peter Tejler, Sweden’s former Ambassador to Iran. Sam will be a highly valued member of the Middle East Group and a key part of our team,” says Saideh Yahyavi, Head of the Magnusson Middle East Group.

“The entrepreneurial culture and international focus of Magnusson makes the firm a great platform for further growth. With the loosening of the sanctions regime I have seen a dramatic increase in companies looking to do business in Iran. I am thrilled to join my new colleagues both in Denmark and internationally,” said Sam Jalaei.

Copenhagen Partner Nikolaj Juhl Hansen, who has worked with Sam in the past, adds: “By bringing Sam into our Copenhagen partner base, we add a very strong international card to our team. We are increasingly asked to advise clients on international law matters, and Sam brings a wealth of Middle East and Iran expertise and number of active blue chip client relationships to the office. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

Bringing Sam Jalaei into the Magnusson family adds yet another dimension to our practice in Denmark. During the past 12 months Magnusson’s Copenhagen office has taken on-board IP and sports law expert Lars Halgreen, real estate partner Jens Vinther Nielsen and the new head of banking and finance, Søren Theilgaard, all of them experienced practitioners within their respective fields.
