MAGNUSSON ADVISES FINNISH EKOKEM ON ITS NORDIC EXPANSION
Magnusson advised Ekokem Oy Ab on its acquisition of a Sweden-based environmental management company SAKAB AB from the international energy group E.ON.
Ekokem is one of the leading Finnish total service providers in the field of environmental management. Within the scope of the project Ekokem has acquired all shares in SAKAB AB.
The Magnusson team comprised lawyers from its Helsinki and Stockholm offices, led by partners Tomi Merenheimo (Helsinki) and Jonas Bergquist (Stockholm). Magnusson provided full-service legal advice to Ekokem, including the overall coordination of the project, due diligence and negotiations.
“The Magnusson team really added value with its seamless cross-border capabilities. They were instrumental when it came to facilitating the successful completion of this highly complex deal", states Timo Piekkari, CEO of Ekokem Oy Ab.
“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to advise Ekokem on its successful acquisition. It is further evidence of Magnusson’s excellent cross-border capabilities and expertise in matters specific to the environmental industry”, says Tomi Merenheimo, the managing partner of Magnusson Helsinki.
Both M&A and environmental practices of Magnusson are on a regular basis recognized by independent benchmarking publications, such as Legal 500 EMEA 2012.
It is another cross-border acquisition project in which Magnusson has been involved recently. Selected examples include advising NASDAQ OMX Helsinki-listed Etteplan Oyj on the acquisition of the Netherlands-based Tedopres International B.V. and advising Sony Ericsson in the process of the sale to Sony Corporation of 50 per cent stake in the joint venture by Ericsson.
